Mark Collins Profile:
Life has been a collective work of open questions and possible answers. There are no absolutes and too numerous possibilities to feel any restriction or completion, just a sense that some answers are more acceptable combinations in this time space
For me, understanding is an insatiable hunger, a fascination and an inexhaustible energy source!
I have been sculpting margarine and ice for 30 years and about 10 years ago started painting and sculpting in other mediums, initially clay but also stone, wood, glass and bronze. I paint in oil and acrylic and find my art practice very empowering and fulfilling. My art projects are inspired by studies of peoples behavior and ideas but most of all possibilities and questions.
The “culinary arts” are works of art: celebrating sight, taste and smell, limited by a “short life” span. They are 3 dimensional in more than one way- with the visual appearance of a dish intrinsically and dynamically linked to the smell and taste sensation, but also effected by the environs and emotional state of the critic.
I am comfortable to be told I am different and take that as an endorsement that I am living my own path. I think we all have a responsibility to contribute in our own unique way thereby add to the collective diversity. This can only be validated if truth and courage lives through all we do. This is our contribution!
